Microsoft describes this setup as “one of the best ways to improve your productivity”. Randy Pausch recommended multiple monitors for improving personal productivity in his Time Management lecture. Contemporary versions of Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and X Window System (used by GNU/Linux) all support multiple monitors. Dual monitor support once depended on specialized proprietary video drivers supplied with few video cards, along with a multi-display-supporting GUI system. Support for multiple monitor configurations was added as a standard feature in Microsoft Windows in Windows 98. It has been a standard feature in all versions of Apple’s Mac OS X (introduced in March 2001), and was a standard feature of the first color Macintosh II introduced in 1987. By adding up to two additional video cards, the Mac supported up to three monitors, although operating system support for multiple monitors wasn’t introduced in Windows until the mid 1990s. The all-in-one Mac SE/30 featured a small black & white screen, but could drive an external color monitor.

“Give someone a second monitor, let them use it for a while, and then try to take it away. It just isn’t going to happen.” Suzanne Ross, Microsoft Research

If you never tried multiple monitors and you have resources to get another monitor, maybe a dual monitor video card, I say GO FOR IT! “The only thing to fear is fear itself.” Or so they say.

However there is just thing that might not be as heart-warming as seeing little daughters birthday party photo, on the dual monitor wallpaper. That is the fact that for those of us who use Windows (and I’m fairly positive about Macs too) might need to use some type of dual monitor software to get the over all experience. Even if you purchased a dual monitor adapter, you will still want to try some of the quirky little features of something like “Ultramon” from Realtime Soft.

They provide a free trail version of their multiple monitor interface solution on their site. I checked it out and one thing that I really like about it is the fact that my Windows task-bar is now a multiple display task-bar. The crazy thing is that it’s so easy when everybody tries to please me. Not only did multi-monitors.com get me a great multiple monitor computer but Ultramon got me a simple easy to use application that makes my multi screen display work seamlessly like one.

I mean here we have a a program that although small is not so little. This great little software will enable you to multi-task better than ever before with your multi screen display. Every day more and more people use more than one monitor, and the great thing about this little program is that it lets you make your screens extremely personal to your needs.

Chief KTP225 Dual Monitor Desk Stand (Holds LCDs up to 30″)

Two of the best features, I think, is the Taskbar Extender, and the ability to stretch a quicktime video across dual screen monitors and not loose any picture quality. In fact it sometimes gains picture quality to make one big screen. With the Taskbar Extender, the once ordinary windows single monitor taskbar extends across multi screens and displays the application in the monitor its on. That’s better than having to always go back to the main monitor to find a application , usually among many others, in the taskbar.

One thing is for sure. This little program compliments my multiple monitor computer and helps me to be more efficient while using it. After all, with all the time spent on the computer shouldn’t we make best of the time?

Read my blog on how to relieve productivity stress w/ dual screens and see what I mean.

If a regular stock computer was a bicycle then a Day Trading Computer would be a Harley Davidson! The power, functionality, and speed are superior. If you’re a day trader I would suggest doing some research and make sure you get exactly what you need. These computers come standard with a lot of stuff but look into any upgrades that could really make a difference for you. Great quality video cards are a must for day trading computers.

How much Muscle do you need in a Day Trading Computer?

Generally speaking your probably replacing your computer due to slow speeds that keep you waiting, upgrading only prolongs poor performance, and the inevitable breakdown. Purchasing a Multiple Monitor system, will get you a longer service life because the faster processing speeds of the CPU coupled withthe industries leading components will combine to delay the day you’ll need to replace it.

Day Trading Tools and Support

Tick charts with multiple indicators applied to them, need faster processors. How fast? As fast as you can get budget wise. Tick charts with those convenient indicators can put a heavy weight on the processor’s “things to do” list, especially when the markets volume is at it’s peak.

The main problem day traders have time and time again, is lack of performance in their current trading computer. Also multi screen compatibility, and reliability. One can not emphasize enough just how crucial it is to your trading success, to not have down time in your stock quotes due to processing speed. In an industry where “every second counts,” and the actual price of a trade can shift significantly in just a couple of seconds, it’s never more important to have a reliable performing multiple monitors.

Choosing a Processor

When you want high performance-rich computing power, start by looking at the processor. Intel has made some groundbreaking advancements, revolutionizing desktop and mobile PCs, workstations and servers too. Not to mention the ability to display multiple monitors.

The i7 processor can perform about 30% more calculations per GHz than a Core2 processor used in a similar configuration. Additionally, the i7 processor has 4 CPU cores to improve performance when more than one software application is being used. This can be a major factor when running multi screens.

Ideal Specifications as a Minimum

Some Reliability Issues to Beware of

As stated on Intel’s website, “overclocked processors can produce unpredictable results or system instabilities, which might not be readily apparent. The life of the processor may also be shortened. Then expected frequency is the frequency at which Intel warrants the reliable performance of the processor. If you have not intentionally changed the system bus frequency or ratio, Intel suggests you contact your PC system manufacturer or reseller to resolve the problem. If you bought an Intel processor that appears to be overclocked and installed it yourself, you should contact the processor place of purchase.”

You’ve probably noticed that everywhere you looks these days you hear something about going green. Whether it be in the news, politics, fashion, and even technology, as well as a Planet Green TV network, you can hardly escape the growing pressure to relieve some of the carbon footprint that we all tend to leave behind.

That may be all great and dandy in the eyes of those tree loving people who so heroically take on the world upon their shoulders. It can be so easy to get caught up in all the quotidian stuff- switching to organic foods, turning down the thermostat (in the winter!), to recycling which has been said to put even more dangerous pollutants in the air that weren’t previously there.

Thankfully a few good men got together and figured out a way we could save time and energy, while we are doing our thing on the computer. Over 1.6 billion of us are surfing the web, trying to get more done than ever before. Well, I have got some news for you. Now we can increase efficiency and decrease energy consumption at the same time.

Imagine all the tasks you may be challenged to complete, on your PC that is. Take into consideration the time it would take to do all those tasks. During that time, your PC is using energy. If we can decrease the time needed to complete those all but necessary everyday tasks on that damned computer, we would also save energy . So how can we make your PC more productive while it’s in use, so there can be less time spent on the computer?

We will start by visiting our multiple monitor hero’s at SUPER PC. They have a multiple monitor computer that does the trick, and looks good doing it with their easy as pie dual monitor setup. It’s called the Nuclear Workstation. Kind of has a ring to it, doesn’t it. New Clean Air, fits right in there.

It’s ready to support dual screen monitors right out of the box. The dual monitor computer is standard, however you can upgrade to as many monitors as you want. Up to 24 really, but you can choose many uprades if you wish. The more computer monitors the better.

Base model includes:

2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo(Dual Core)

4GB of DDR2 PC6400(800Mhz)

Dual Layer DVD Burner/Drive

Vista Home

500GB SATA 7200 RPM Drive

512MB GDDR2 ATI Radeon 3650 dual monitor video card

You will quickly learn that mulitple monitors are better. Saves time, and that’s money. Save money and you save energy. Saving energy makes the whole world a better place for us all and our grand kids too.

So quickly as you can and get more computer monitors. If you can’t afford a new computer get a dual monitor adapter.

The basic concepts related to the various types of multiple-adapter configurations are not new or specific to Windows Vista, but are important to understand in relation to the design of the multi-adapter feature in Windows Vista.

Get a different feel using a Multiple Monitor display on Vista than with it’s predecessor Windows XP.

Although the functionality is the same for the most part, you’ll notice something is slightly different.

For example, when using the XP operating system, it was rather easy to install different dual monitor video cards from different manufacturers on the same multiple monitor system. This was typically done by installing a high-end graphics card from one company, placing it in the primary PCI Express slot, and also having a lower-end standard PCI video card (possibly from a different manufacturer) powering peripheral displays. Even Though these two cards which can be completely different using two different “display drivers” (the software that tells Windows how to use the graphics card,) this configuration could still work in the Windows XP operating system.

Microsoft has been known however, for claims that having multiple monitor VGA drivers in Windows XP often causes stability crisis.

So in an attempt to resolve this issue, Windows Vista requires that all installed graphics cards use the same display drivers in order to perform efficiently and stable. The drawback to such events, is that all graphics cards installed on a dual monitor setup or higher should be from the same manufacturer, and not from different companies. For example, no mix matching Nvidia dual monitor video cards with ATI cards.

If for some reason you would want to continue using outdated hardware but wanted to upgrade to Vista (if that’s possible)

you can use a legacy XP driver (XPDM driver) with your existing graphics hardware. However you must be forewarned that some options in the Vista such as, but not limited to, advanced 3D rendering options to your computer monitors. You can also use a dual monitor adapter to.

One of the favorite improvements in Windows Vista using multiple monitors,

and that is the remote desktop client now has multi screen capability. Let’s say your at the home office and you need a screen shot from your PC at the other office. With Windows Vista, you have the power to remotely access your PC from another using the Remote Desktop feature. Your entire desktop can be displayed instead of just the main monitor, even if the viewer only has one monitor.

Whether you use a dual monitor video card or a dual monitor adapter, your going to benefit by upgrading your system to support a dual monitor display at the least.

Make PowerPoint Presentations easier with dual monitors by enabling the Presenter View.

Enabling the Presenter View allows you to view notes and other information to help you while you’re giving the presentation. The audience sees the slide show while you view notes and upcoming slides.

Add a couple inexpensive add-ons to PowerPoint, and get even more use out of PowerPoint and Multiple Displays. Check out programs like PowerViewer and Sunday Star to display multiple PowerPoint presentations at once. Turn powerPoint into a program for displaying your multiple monitor display wall. Mirror Mode gives the option to show the same presentation on two or more monitors. Using a technique such as Mirroring would be ideal in large rooms where it might not be easy for all viewers to see a single display.

Before you can turn on the dual monitor setup (sometimes called multiple monitor support), you must have the proper hardware installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Dual monitor support is available for desktop computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or later, and laptop computers running Microsoft Windows XP.

If you’re currently using or plan to use Windows XP or Vista, did you know that you can configure your desktop run Multi-Screen Displays? It’s easier than the average non-techgeek might think, and this blog is going to give you step-by-step instructions on how to use this awesome feature built in the Windows operating system. The whole process should only take the everyday novice only a few minutes to get you out of the stone age of single monitor computing and into the now with Multiple Monitor Displays. This is a very efficient way to get that Dual Monitor Setup, and once you try it, you’ll never want to go back to one monitor again, I guarantee it. Instead you may be on the search for the most accessible Dual Monitor Video Card or at least a Dual Monitor Adapter to satisfy your new found productivity multiplier.

Here is a very helpful video for Windows Vista users. You can just continue to read through the article and/or if something doesn’t make sense, just watch the video below for a clear demonstration with instructions on how to enable Multiple Monitors on your computer, but will most likely (but not absolutely) need at least one if not more Multi Monitor Video Card.

Windows XP Users:

As a side note, you should be aware that in a Multi Monitor Setup one of the monitorswill serve as the primary monitor which will display the login dialog upon start up of your pc. Most all of the items you open will default to the primary monitor. One of the greatest things is that you can actually select completely different resolutions for each screen as well as adjust the color settings individually. To connect up your Multiple Monitor System you will need additional video outlets or one (or more) of the easy to use and truly a no brain-er “so easy a caveman can do it” Multi-Monitor Adapters offered by the company that brings us the productivity machine that is gaining steam as an authority and known worldwide as Super PC. It’s the type of simple yet dependable Multiple Monitor video adapter that will allow you to take full advantage of the awesome productivity gains you would expect to get when using a Multi-Screen solution without the daunting need to install expensive, over-rated, over-priced, off the chain and unnecessary multiple monitor software.

Configuration Step: Here we go!

1) Go to START -> CONTROL PANEL

2) Select APPEARANCE AND THEMES -> DISPAY

3) Select the SETTINGS TAB and click IDENTIFY which will display a large number on each of the monitors. This shows which monitor is going to correspond with each icon.

4) Click the icons and drag them to the real world position in which the monitors are set up.
Click APPLY or OK

That’s almost just about it, your screen will most likely flash and Windows may ask you if you’d like to keep the settings and if all is well and everything looks good, then go ahead and hit OK. Viola! You now have a Multi Screen / Multi Monitors to work with. Enjoy!

To change the primary monitor in Windows XP you can do the following:

Steps:

1) In SETTINGS TAB of the Display Properties Dialog box, click once on the monitor icon that you would like to make the primary monitor.

2) Click to select the USE THIS DEVICE AS PRIMARY MONITOR check box. This box will not be available if you select the monitor that is already your primary monitor.

Windows Vista Users

Note: Windows Vista is designed to be a little more user friendly. When I plug in my additional monitor, Windows automatically sets it up for me, MOST OF THE TIME. So, I’ve included these directions for the times when Windows is unable to set up your monitor on its own. Also, as mentioned above, I’ve included a short video for the Vista setup, just in case you have trouble finding anything.

Configuration Step:

1) Go to the START button (actually, it’s the circular Window logo in the bottom left hand corner of the screen on most Vista desktops.)

2) Select CONTROL PANEL from the right hand column.

3) If you are in Classic View, then select CONTROL PANEL HOME.

4) Under the Appearance and Personalization, click ADJUST SCREEN RESOLUTION

5) Now you should see two or more black boxes if you’ve already connected your additional monitor. The icons are representations of the real world position of your monitors. You can drag and drop the icons so that they accurately represent where your multiple monitors are located on your desk.

6) Now select the additional monitor by click the icon and make sure the check box below that says, “Extend the desktop onto this monitor” is selected, then click APPLY. Once complete, this process will enable your Multiple Monitor Setup to perform seamlessly and allow you to navigate through all monitors.

7) You may see the screen flash, and the desktop should now be extended to show Dual Screens. You should get a little pop up that asks if you’d like to keep these settings. If everything looks good, click OK. If something isn’t right, click CANCEL button and try one more time from the top.

There you go! Just about everything you need to know to setup your Multiple Monitor Display. Now you can finally paste that old black lab lounging peacefully on the old wood porch (like great Grandpa had in the Ozarks of MO) as a Dual Monitor Wallpaper. Or you can even go a step further than that. It all depends on the individual as to what type of Dual Monitor Backgrounds he or she may or may not use. In a world that strives to be politically correct, it’s good to know that there’s a Multi-Monitor Display on your desk to show all the different colours of diversity simultaneously!

Lets take in to consideration some thoughts on sufficient use, or lack of, our time. Our daily schedule is filled with a vast field of chores, things to do, acts of honor, and wishful thinking. The modern day revolution of technological breakthroughs in association with everyday office/business/personal needs, can often become a systematical ritual of keeping up with the Jone’s. All in all, the more we can get done the better, and not the other way around. With that in mind, the pressure to do more is sometimes great and that pressure can become stress.

If your among the billions of people (literally over 1.6 billion worldwide according to Internetworldstats.com) then you know how time consuming your desktop, Mac, or PC can be. If you’re not, I’m sure you will be soon enough.

Fortunately, the technology demands of our time is rivaled only in terms of it’s terms of growth. Now more than ever a person can use a computer to organize their schedule, set a reminder to finish those reports, pay the bills, check juniors grades, and most of all, experience the tranquility of a good chair in the process.

This, of course, is not necessarily news to many. However, what many people don’t know is that even when we are in our favorite chair, at the the office or home, the pressure to be productive still lurks around every corner. If one of over a billion people that still doesn’t have multiple monitors on your desktop , then you’re either to busy to notice or you’re in severe denial.

The fact is that a dual monitor setup goes far beyond just being a scenic dual monitor wallpaper. Folks around the world rave at the super beneficial productivity gains they get with trading computers that support multi screen displays. Not only that, independent studies have shown that when a persons job is made easier, their stress levels reduce. It makes sense to me that when the pressure of work dominates our lives, then that stress can and generally will transcend into our personal and social life as well. So in recognizing that dual screen monitors are better than one, go get another monitor!

I always say that two monitors are better than one
You can never have enough screen space, especially when organizing and working on your digital pictures. Instead of buying a larger monitor, if you’re using Windows XP or later, you can buy an inexpensive second monitor and connect it to your computer—instantly doubling your work space. Flat panel LCD monitors look great and will save room on your desk; CRT monitors also work well and can be less expensive but a bit bulky.
There are several different ways you can make use of this extra screen space when working at home or in your office. If you take a lot of digital pictures, some of the advantages to having dual monitors at your work space include:
· When browsing your picture library, you can view the thumbnails on one monitor, and use the second monitor to view pictures full screen to check for proper focus and image quality.
· When editing photos, you can use one monitor to browse the pictures with Windows Explorer or a photo library program, and use the second monitor to edit the pictures with your photo-editing software.
· If you need to stay on top of your e-mail while working, you can keep your inbox open on one monitor and work on your photos on the other.
What you’ll need: desktop computer
Many new desktop computers support dual monitors without requiring any additional hardware. To see if you have more than one monitor connection, look at the back of your computer for two Video Graphics Array (VGA) connectors or two Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connectors or one of each.
Most new desktop computers include two connectors to support dual monitors.
If you only have a single VGA or DVI connector, you will need to install a video adapter. You can either install a second video adapter or replace your current video adapter with one that has two VGA or DVI connections. Installing video adapters can be difficult if you’re not familiar with the inside of your computer, so you may want to seek assistance from a local computer retailer that offers computer upgrade services.
What you’ll need: laptop computer
If you have a laptop computer made in the last several years, you can almost certainly support an external monitor by connecting it to the VGA or DVI connector on the back of your computer. The external monitor can act as a second display to your laptop’s built-in display.
Configuring your displaysConnect your second monitor, and then restart your computer so that it detects the new monitor. Once you have restarted your computer, you’ll need to adjust your display settings by following these steps:
· Click the Start menu, and then click Control Panel.
· Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
Once you connect your second monitor, you need to adjust your display settings.
· In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
· Click the monitor icon labeled 2, and then select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor checkbox.
Extend your Windows desktop to your second monitor.
Troubleshooting: If you do not see two monitor icons, your computer might not support multiple monitors. First, make sure that you have Windows XP installed. Then, visit Microsoft Update, click Custom Install, and install any available hardware updates. You may also need to visit your computer manufacturer’s Web site to install an updated display driver. If you still do not see two monitor icons, you may need to install an additional display adapter, as described earlier in this article.
· If necessary, drag the monitor icons so that they are arranged in the same way as the monitors on your desk. Click the Identify button to indicate which monitor is 1 and which monitor is 2.
Drag the monitor icons to match the physical arrangement of your dual monitors.
· Click Apply. Windows XP will activate your new monitor.
· Click OK.
A dual screen setup enables you to view the same image side by side.
Once your monitor is set up, you can use your mouse to grab the title bar of a window and drag it to your new display. If a window does not move when you drag it, double-click the title bar first, and then drag it. Having two monitors will forever change the way you work with your computer. Be creative and experiment with the sizing of application windows and what information you can keep in constant view while doing multiple tasks.

Also available are Multi-Monitor/Multi-Screen systems. A Multiple Monitor computer will give you multiple amount of productivity increase.

I multitask all day and I’m not using “multitask” in that buzz-term kind of way. Between e-mail, instant messages, and news updates, it seems like I need one computer for communications and another computer for work. I run several different applications simultaneously and constantly switch among them.
At times, I’m testing an application while taking notes in Microsoft Word. Other times, I’m instant messaging with a friend about a Web page or running Virtual PC to test a procedure in a book I’m editing. Often I’m doing all those things simultaneously. It seems like I waste half the day clicking the taskbar to switch between tasks.
Turns out I didn’t need another computer—I just needed another monitor. Windows XP supports using multiple monitors and has the multi-screen feature built in. Dual monitors lets you add a separate monitor to your laptop and view different programs on each display.
In this column, I’ll explain how to configure multiple monitors using the Dual screen feature in Windows XP. And I’ll help you set up an old laptop as a second monitor by using some cool third-party software that works with Windows XP.
Configure Multi-Monitor and Dualview
If you have a desktop computer and you want multi-screens, your best bet is to buy an external monitor and a second video adapter that supports multiple monitor displays. Here’s a list of Supported Display Adapters for Multiple Monitor Display and Dual Monitors. Alternatively, you can upgrade your current video adapter with an adapter that can connect directly to multiple monitors. You can find such video adapters for less than $200 at most electronics stores—just make sure that it’s compatible with your computer and has connectors that match the monitors you plan to use.
If you’re a laptop user like me, you don’t have the option of adding another video adapter, but your laptop might support using Dual Display with an external monitor and the laptop’s built-in display. If it does support Dualview, just do what I did: plug a monitor into the external VGA port of your laptop and turn on the Dualview feature of Windows XP. To turn on Dualview, follow these steps:
1.
Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
2.
In the DisplayProperties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
3.
Click the Display list and select your external monitor. If you do not see multiple monitors listed, your computer hardware may not support Dualview. You can still use MaxiVista to configure a second computer as an additional display, however.
4.
Select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor option. Click Apply or OK.
Now I can have different windows open on my laptop’s built-in display and the external monitor. I can move windows between the two displays and even stretch windows across both displays. For more information on how to move from one monitor to the other, see Expand Your Workspace with a Multiple Monitor Computer.

Let’s take in to consideration some thoughts on sufficient use, or lack of, our time. Our daily schedule is filled with chores, and things to do. The modern day revolution of technological breakthroughs in office/business/personal needs can often become hard to keep up with. All in all, the more we can get done in an hour, the better, and not the other way around. With that in mind, consider a dual monitor video card.
Remembering back when I originally switched to a dual monitor setup to gain efficiency online, I know I’ll never go back. The productivity benefits came not only in apparent gains but actually relieved stress and tension associated with my increasing frustration. Frustrations that stemmed from the “single monitor blues” that is. Of course I have written about how easy it is to setup a multiple monitor system including but not limited to adding a dual monitor video card, to using a dual monitor adapter. So we already know how easy it is to create multiple monitor displays. Now we’re going to look at how to make the most of your multiple monitor setups. Here are 5 tips on efficiency using dual screen monitors that have worked for me. If you have a multi screen computer these tips will benefit you as well but to keep it simple this blog will address dual monitor backgrounds.
You can save one to two hours a day using an Integrated Multiple Monitor System.

The return on investment when purchasing a multiple monitor display for your computing needs, is significant. Here are some interesting statistics. On average, people studied spend two to three hours a day in email alone. Many times even dual computer monitors can’t cut through the haze of information.

Multi Screen Displays can be the Easiest Thing You Can Do.

After setting up your integrated multiple monitor system, you’ll notice less time spent toggling through e-mail applications, less time finding and filing information. You can’t afford not to create an effective integrated multi screen display computer.

Who says it takes too much time to get Productive?

A dual monitor video cardcan most likely be installed without a significant investment of time or money. If you’re sceptical or dont want to invest much into your current pc, but not yet ready to make a full leap with the whole multi monitor setup, you can purchase one or more dual monitor adapters. A dual monitor setup is going to be so easy to do that you’ll want to be the first one in your office to catch on.

Save time and money towards your next vacation!

We all can think of many examples of how we waste time by not having an integrated management system to help us remember what, where, when, and how data should be sorted, filtered, digested, and recycled. Starting with your computer monitor, you can start saving exponentially.

Get a Multiple LCD Displaytoday and instantly begin transformation of your time and time off.

How to Resurrect a Crashed Hard Drive

The hard drive is possibly the most failure prone part of your computer. Whether it’s been dropped, over heated, or simply died of old age. If you’ve traced your problem to the hard drive, the solution depends on the symptoms it’s exhibiting.

If the drive spins up but behaves erratically, you probably have data corruption caused by a failing drive. Try the following steps to recover your data and copy it to a good drive before the bad one dies.

Check cabling.

Before anything else, if you’re using an IDE drive, check that the data cable is connected properly, and if it is, switch to a new cable. IDE cable are notoriously cheap and are prone to having their insulation stripped by the metal edges inside the PCs case shorting out the cable.

Try a boot Disc

Try starting your machine with a boot disc such as Ultimate Boot CD for Windows to learn if the drive is readable. If it is, back up all of the data to another drive, and reformat the original discs to see if it’s salvageable.

Check for bad sectors

You may have bad sectors. Try using HDD Re-generator to locate any. Download the demo and burn it to a boot able CD. If the free demo finds bad sectors, it may be worth paying for the full version, if it can recover the bad sectors and make the drive usable once more.

Try Utilities from disk’s manufacturer

TackTech.com features manufacturer specific utilities for virtually any hard drive vendor. Find outwhat company made the drive that’s failing, then download the appropriate diagnostic application. All of the tools are free and can help diagnose problems on the drive and repair them.

Try Data Recovery Software

If you still can;t get the drive to boot, turn to data recovery software to attempt salvage lost files. You have dozens of alternatives in this market, and prices may generally run from $40 to $200. Stellar Phoenix may be an ideal choice.

Some Last Ditch Efforts

If the Hard Drive won’t spin up at all, you can still try a few last at jabs that have only a slim chance of working. But if your drive won’t even spin, it probably wont hurt to try these, just don’t do anything to further damage the disc, as the drive recovery surface may still be able to help. For example don’t bang on the drive, and don’t remove the cover and expose the heads.

Try the Freezer Trick

The freezer trick is an old standby if you have a drive that’s clicking but not spinning. Put the drive in a plastic freezer bag to keep the water out, and wrap it in a towel for extra protection, and then freeze it for a few hours. Let it thaw back to room temperature after you remove and get rid of any condensation you can see. There’s no agreed upon length of time to freeze it so start with an hour and work your way up to 24 hours and see if you can make that drive spin up one last time.

Try to Loosen Stuck Drives

To loosen stuck discs, hold the drive in your hand and rotate your arm outward quickly, parallel to the orientation to the plats, a bit like throwing a Frisbee. Repeat this action several times but make sure to not to bang the disc on anything. This action is designed to solve a problem called stiction or static friction, which can prevent drive platters from spinning.

Apply a High-Wattage Power Burst

Finally you can try attaching the drive to a high wattage power supply. Even though it wont draw up extra power, a burst of juice from the highest wattage power supply you can find, could jar it into spinning up one last time.

Copy All Your Files

Remember if you do get a dead drive spinning again, don’t let it stop until you’ve copied off all your critical data. Chances are, you wont have it working again.

If all else fails and you absolutely need data off the hard drive, your last best hope is to send it to a data recovery service like Drivesavers. It isn’t cheap and expect to pay up to $3000, but they can perform magic when consumer grade tools fail.

Make Regular BackupsTo alleviate this problem in the future, make sure your back ups are up to date, and for added security, mirror a second hard drive to ensure you have a real-time back up for the minimal risks of data loss and downtime. PC World Aug. 09

Data thieves don’t have to be programming wizards to get their hands on your personal information. They often find hard drives that contain financial and other sensitive data at flea markets, charity shops, city dumbs, and even on eBay. Trading computers can contain a lot of financial information that should be protected.

So if your upgrading your single computer monitor PC to a Multi Display Computer be sure to protect yourself with some of these tips from PC World.

These tips will help you render an old drives files unreadable.

Reformatting a drive and deleting its partition doesn’t truly erase it’s files. Putting files into windows recycle bin makes them unreadable by the operating system, but they’re still viewable to anyone using data recovery. That’s why a dedicated drive erasing tool is a must.

A reliable way to destroy old data is to use a block eraser utility such as DBAN, which overrides each block on your hard drive several times, and can create either a boot-able floppy disc or an ISO file you can burn to a CD. Once you boot from a start up disc just a few key strokes can begin blowing away your data.

The secure erase utility uses the disc drive secure erase command that’s built into every modern hard drives firmware. The wipe is incredibly fast. Secure erase can do the whole job in about half the time that a block eraser could take. Especially if you already have a multi display.

Some government agencies use huge grinders to shred their discarded drives into tiny bits. Some folks chop their old drives with an ax or drive nails through them. You may not have to go through such extremes though, however a few whacks with a sledge hammer can do wonders for your peace of mind and may even reduce a little stress. Make sure you know how to use such tools safely and remember to use safety goggles.

Upgrade to a multi screen computer at the Multi Monitor Store/ Super PC

Encrypting files on your hard drive prevents unauthorized access to your information. You can also use encryption to help ensure that the files you delete are not recoverable. If you encrypt a file before you delete it, a file recovery utility may be able to restore the encrypted version of the file, but the utility will not be able to decrypt it, and chances are good that no one else will be able to decrypt either.

Windows XP Pro Has Built-In File Encryption.

To use Windows XP Pros built in encryption, you have to log on to a password protected account. Next right click the files or folders you would like to encrypt, choose properties> advance and check “encrypt contents to secure data” and click OK. You can encrypt any files except system files. So you can select all the folders on the C drive except the Windows folder and encrypt everything inside.

Windows XP creates a unique encryption key automatically if you use this feature. If you wipe your installation of Windows which includes you encryption keys, neither you nor anyone else will be able to decrypt those files. However if you choose to encrypt you files this way you should still run a secure erase tool to be absolutely certain to ensure your privacy.

So if your one of the happy folks that are just getting started on the multiple monitor concept, then there are a few basic tips you’re going to want to know about. Whether you purchased a multiple monitor ready computer, installed a dual monitor video card or two, or simply used a dual monitor adapter, you’re going to want to know how to make the most of your situation.

In this section we’re going to focus on how to extend the task bar across multiple monitors.

We know that it’s easy to move your Windows task-bar from one monitor to another. First make sure to (right click on taskbar)
uncheck the “Lock the Taskbar” and then just click and drag it to any side of either monitor to make it stay. You will soon learn that you don’t want to have to scoot your mouse pointer over to the monitor where your taskbar is residing, several monitors over, which could be some distance if you have more than a dual monitor setup.

Get a multi monitor software that will extend your task-bar across all screens.

A very popular dual monitor softwareand easy to use utility that’s also free to download, is called UltraMon. The “smart Taskbar” feature adds an additional taskbar for each secondary monitor, and each taskbar only shows tasks from the computer monitor it is on. This can be very effective in managing lots of open applications much easier, and when activating an application, you’ll know on which monitor it will appear.

UltraMon will use the same setting for labels as the main taskbar, you can change this via Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu > Taskbar buttons, setting this to ‘Never combine’ will get you the same icon + label buttons as on XP.

UltraMon also enables dual monitor wallpaper

Start buttons on every display taskbar?

Support for toolbars in more than one taskbar is said to be available in the 3.0 versions. Early versions did not come with built-in toolbars, and you would have to install something like True Launch Bar to add taskbars to UltraMon.

Get the most out of your dual screen monitors and/or turn your multi-monitor display into the productivity machine you’ve always wanted.

Are your customers demanding more than you can keep up with? Are they demanding more for less? Of course they want world class products and services, we all do. If you can’t provide what they want, they will find someone else who can. Customer loyalty is a myth that was formed in the mist of our distant past. Operating on a single computer monitor can be a customer service handicap.

We must be closer to our customer than ever. We must provide great customer service.

Core system fundamentals of customer service have been packaged up and integrated into corporate America for over two hundred years. However the main principal is universal. Fill the Needs of the customer. If your customer service rep. has a multiple monitor display when addressing the customers need, he or she will be better enabled to provide those needs.

Definition of Customer Service:

According to the ACA Group, www.theacagroup.com, customer service is the ability of an organization to constantly and consistently give the customer what they want and need. The ACA Group is an alliance of highly trained and experienced consultants and instructors providing Consulting Services, Training & Education to a variety of manufacturing and service organizations, in both the public and private sectors ranging from five million dollars in annual sales to Fortune 500 companies. The ACA Group defines excellent customer service as the ability of an organization to constantly and consistently exceed the customer’s expectations.

Every desktop in your organization should be multi screen.

This definition goes beyond the traditional way we think about customer service. It covers areas that do not come in direct contact with the customer at all. Manufacturing, purchasing and quality control may never talk to the end user of our products, yet they are vital in meeting the customer’s needs. If we deliver an expensive product that doesn’t work and we deliver it late, that affects customer service just as much as a rude salesperson.

The entire enterprise must pull together to provide excellent customer service

Replacing your aging fleet of soon-to-be-obsolete computers with a new multi monitor setup, may be just what you need to save money and make your business more efficient.

Typical obstacles preventing efficient productivity,

can generally be narrowed down to a handful of common beliefs says Sally McGhee, a recognized thought leader and innovator in the field of productivity management. She has trained thousands of people in the corporate environment, and has more than 25 years’ experience as a consultant and an executive coach, and also is the founder and CEO of McGhee Productivity Solutions.

She says common beliefs such as, but not limited to, Too Much Information coming in at once, Cluttered up Records, Time Management, and Organization to name a few. However one thing we, -those of us who’ve already experienced true multiple monitor computing, have found is that all the above can be greatly reduced by utilizing multiple monitor video cards.

Many of us can agree that at times, email is overwhelming.

Sometimes it’s hard to keep up when reign of spam begins to overtake the inbox. But in reality, it’s not the volume of e-mail that’s a issue. How you process and organize the volume is the issue.

Outlook split view

This issue can be greatly reduced

with the use of dual monitors, or dual monitor display. When each year more data is coming at by way of e-mails, it can be easy to let the e-mails drive you. With a multi screen display you can see the emails coming in while writing back and/or researching other data.

dual monitor display

We have to keep everything. You just never know when you might need it!

Well believe it or not, on average, studies show that most of us can throw away up to 50% of our stored information, with no ramifications. So far so good anyway. As for those of you who are “keepers,” we know the value of real estate, and at some point the decision is made to hang on to everything so that it can be made useful again in the future. Either way you choose, a 3 monitor display is ideal for shuffling around many groups of information.

The key is Time Management!

“I just don’t have enough time to do all the things I want.” If you’ve heard that before, it’s probably because you’ve said it. Fortunately, technology is helping to make life more convenient. If your to-do lists keeps you in multiple locations on the web-you might want to consider a multi monitor display. This will make it much easier to centralize and prioritize your things to-do. Outlook in a multiple monitor display is highly recommended. For those of you who don’t already have it, get you a dual monitor video card and open up your horizons..
